The Pintabian is nearly a full-blooded Arabian (at least 99% Arabian blood) with the dominant tobiano spots bred into the line. The tobiano spotting pattern is a dominant characteristic At least one parent must be a tobiano to produce a tobiano foal. Pintabians were developed by continually crossing tobianos with purebred Arabians until a relatively pure strain of spotted horses with nearly 100 percent Arabian blood was obtained.
You might hear or see the fraction: 127/128. This means that out of 128 ancestors in a Pintabian’s bloodline, 127 of them were pure Arabians. The one that was not was the horse that contributed the tobiano markings to the line.
Although "OZ" did not receive the Tobian markings, he is a beautiful horse with the Arabian temperament - obedient and friendly. |
